As we all know learning disabilities is a vital subject that everyone should give a huge attention to. There are many types of disabilities that lots of people suffer from while going through their educational trip. According to New York City Council, a survey which was held on the 19th of April 2016 shows that one in five pupils or 15–20 percent of them have language-based learning difficulty. And 30 per cent up to 70 percent of children suffer from dyslexia or dyscalculia, and 45 % of them with ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) also have a learning disability according to “national center for learning disabilities”. These huge numbers were written according to some studies and researches which really make it concerning and should attract our attention first, to try to fix things up then. Ignoring these facts may make it way more difficult to handle all of that in the future especially because some studies showed that several of these disabilities are hereditary. So, what are some solutions and suggestions to overcome this issue before becoming worse and worse.

computer technology and helping students with disabilities:

No one can deny the huge impact computers bring to our lives either positively or negatively. Let’s see some of the positive ones which were used to help such people with learning disabilities. Many students cannot entirely profit from the traditional school curriculum. Because they can’t fit in a typical classroom environment, these students that we should do our best to find a way to make them an effective part of every society. One of these ways is using technology and computers. Computer-based technology may play a particularly valuable role for these students. It’s not just about facilitating a wider range of educational activities to meet a range of needs for students with mild learning disorders, but also, they developed a technology which gives an opportunity for even these pupils with severe disabilities to become active learners, more creative and help them fitting with others and their peers who do not have such disabilities. So, then they won’t feel marginalized in the society any more.

Fitting in well :)
Don’t lose hope :)

How does it work:

We should point out and analyze the role information technology can play in supporting the education of children with special needs in daily classrooms. For instance, computer technologies for word processing, correspondence, analysis and multimedia projects will help 3 million students with unique learning and emotional disabilities keep up with their non-disabled peers. Computer technology has additionally increased the event of subtle devices that may assist the 2 million students with additional severe disabilities in overcoming a large vary of limitations that hinder room participation, from speech and hearing impairments to sightlessness and severe physical disabilities. However, several lecturers aren’t adequately trained on the way to use technology effectively in their classrooms, and therefore the cost of the technology could be a serious thought for all schools. Thus, though technology has the potential to act as AN equalizer by liberating many students from their disabilities, the barriers of inadequate coaching and value should initial be overcome before a lot of widespread use will become a reality.

Tools make it easier:

Some students have a certain type of learning disabilities such as those who has a restricted ability in writing. Scientists have developed a technology that helps these people to express themselves and whatever they want to write orally by taking a voice-input using a microphone and transfer it to a written words on a computer screen, which helped a lot and decreased the hardness they were going through. They also used hypermedia to help students who are facing difficulties in mathematic due to their learning disabilities. Using computers to teach these students problem solving made it much easier for students to learn as well as teachers to teach. Building on defined efficient learning techniques, direct teaching methods, and concepts of effective instruction design, the case is bestowed for the employment of interactive multimedia system in serving to students with learning disabilities to enhance their arithmetic problem-solving skills.

some drawbacks:

In fact, the drawbacks for computer technology in helping students with certain disabilities are not that much, and it’s not a disadvantage for students themselves but the technology itself. One problem related to computer technology in education is the cost of this technology. This kind of technology which is used to help people with education disabilities costs lots of money. The research itself needs a huge amount of money without even start to think about the gadgets, they will also cost a lot, which may make it a bit hard for some schools to apply such technology as well as for some parents to offer such education for their children. That means that not all students with disabilities may get the chance to have this kind of education unless the government makes it more possible and gives a hand for these students. Another drawback is the ability for teachers to get to using on using this technology. It may be hard at first because these gadgets are not that easy to us, and as well as all of us know teachers are not in technology that much, which may create a problem and make it needs a little bit more time to apply this technology, because as we all know if you want to teach someone something you need to know it by heart or you’ll never be a good teacher.

conclusion:

As what we can conclude, education for students with disabilities is a really important subject that was discussed and still needs to put some lights on. It may sound ok for some of us but we should also think about those who are struggling in their life, facing several difficulties, trying their best to fit in within their society, which is supposed to incubate them more than anyone else. Fortunately, we can still find people who didn’t lose their hope, trying whatever they know, whatever they can do to help students suffering from disabilities, and try to make them as well beneficial as the ones who are mentally and physically well facing no problems at all. We should appreciate what others are doing for these children, the technology they have developed. It may seem that it’s simple and easy but these things are quite complicated and cost lots of money. But if you get hope nothing can stop you. You will put as much as you can, as much effort, as much money you have, you’ll do your best because you believe in something, and whomever believes in something will never stop until achieves his/her goals. It is an invitation for you, for me, for everyone to do anything no matter how small it may be, but we have to try, we should try and believe just like these scientists and people how believe that they can change the world by changing the ones who have any kind of disability, and they will change. So, let us help them and try what we can do, let’s take a role in that change or let us at least believe.
